The megadiverse northeast comer of the Peruvian Amazon is scattered with peatlands. Peatlands are wetlands that are critical for safe drinking water, flood control and biodiversity, and also keep a lot of carbon locked away, mitigating climate change. However, for decades, illegal mining and logging have threatened the health of the forest and the people who live around the newly created Yaguas National Park, where some 29 Indigenous communities live just outside its borders.

Liz Chicaje Churay, now 38, is a leader in one of these communities, the Indigenous Bora Community of Loreto, Peru. She is also president of an agricultural cooperative and former president of the Federation of Indigenous Communities of the Ampiyacu River. Chicaje became an activist at the age of 16. Her community decided that establishing a formal national park in the region would offer some protection against increased invasion from illegal loggers and would protect the forests, peatlands and waterways, so they launched a campaign.

Working with researchers, conservationists and government officials, Chicaje and her community began mapping the region with satellite imagery and educating Peruvians across society. Chicaje and her team traveled into remote regions of the forest to strategize with other Indigenous groups, ultimately convincing 23 of the 29 local Indigenous communities to endorse the park.

In January, 2018, Peru's government declared the creation of Yagus National Park to protect the Amazon rainforests and peatlands within the forest. The park covers 868, 900 hectares(2.15 million acres), an area roughly the size of Yellow Stone National Park in the United States.

Chieaje was nominated for the Goldman Prize with Benjamin Rodriguez, who also worked for the protection of the Yugas region.

People who love history sometimes make a distinction between fiction and non-fiction when they think about the books that have influenced them. But novelists, poets and creative writers are products of their time, their perspectives can not only be illuminating but also important. Indeed, in some respects, it can even be more useful to read what someone wrote at the time than the work of historians writing many centuries later. History is all about the primary sources, after all.

I fell in love with history of pre-revolutionary Russian when I was a teenager, and tried to learn about the art and music of the late 19[ann][/ann]

and early 20[ann][/ann]centuries, as well as reading everything I could find in the school library.

So perhaps it is no surprise that my classic book nomination is First Love by Ivan Turgenev. It's a little slip of a novel, but one that captures a different time and different places so well that it made me want to become a historian. The story focuses on the complex emotions of a young man who is growing up and trying to make sense of his feelings for Zinaida, a beautiful and charismatic woman.

The themes of yearning and confusion, of frustration and hurt are beautifully captured by Turgenev, who was drawing on his own experiences. It left a real impression on me— and it's a book I go back to often to remind me of how I too fell in love with history. Dear readers, why not have a try?

35

Why are poets mentioned in paragraph 1?

A、To confirm their influences are more powerful.
B、To explain their perspectives are more important.
C、To show their works can sometimes reflect history.
D、To stress their works are as illuminating as novelists’
36

What do we know about the book 《First Love》?

A、It's a writer's biography of Turgenev.
B、It focuses on the writers’ love for art.
C、It tells a story of being a historian.
D、It is a book influencing the writer deeply.
37

What is the writer s attitude towards the book《 First Love》?

A、Positive
B、Intolerant.
C、Uncaring.
D、Ambiguous.
38

What is the main purpose of the text?

A、To argue for studying history.
B、To present and recommend a book
C、To clarify the importance of reading.
D、To compare fiction with non-fiction.

Several years ago, researchers discovered that wild Campbell's monkey called after the the meaning of their"Krak", "hork" and "boom" called by adding suffixes. Just as adding the suffix "-dom" to the word "king" creates "kingdom", the monkey's suffixes help indicate specific threats. "Krak" means a leopard is present, for example, while "Krak-oo" indicates an specified danger such as a falling branch or another troop of monkeys encroaching on the caller's territory. This is the first time that we can demonstrate that these sequences convey something about an event the monkey has witnessed, "Klaus Zuberbuehler, a professor at the university of ST Andrews commented when the findings were announced.

Now, Zuberbuehler and several international colleagues have delved deeper into that discovery. They found that another species, the Diana monkey, has tapped into suffixed system of communication, Diana monkey did not recognize the Campbell's monkey danger calls, but they knew which call corresponds to which type of danger. To reveal these secret monkey ways, the researchers raveled to Ivory Coast and conducted field experiment in Tai National Park. They sought out 42 wild group of Diana monkeys and then played one-minute clips of Campbell's monkey making"Krak" or "Krak-oo" alarm calls.

From their previous work, the team knew that Campbell’s monkey respond more strongly to "Krak" calls than to "Krak-oo" calls. This makes sense. Given that leopard was nearby, they gave significantly more of their own alarm calls than when they heard a general "Krak-oo" call. They also remained on high alert for longer and made few social calls following the "Krak" alarm.

……

To the best of researchers knowledge, this is the first time that scientists have demonstrated experimentally that wild, untrained animals use suffixation to communicate with one another in the natural world.

39

What do we know about wild Campbell's monkeys?

A、They can invent suffixes to their peers.
B、They can describe an event like human beings.
C、They can use suffixes to convey certain message.
D、They can make calls to gain their own territories.
40

What is the purpose of field experiment in Tai National Park?

A、To prove the effective communication between monkeys.
B、To compare the monkey's various way of communication.
C、To different wild Campbell's monkey's alarm calls.
D、To examine the monkey's suffixed system of communication.
41

Why did the Diana monkey respond more strongly to"Krak"calls?

A、They were used to remaining on higher alert.
B、They were awake of the graver potential threat.
C、They misunderstand the meaning of these calls.
D、They sensed greater danger of falling branches.
42

What can be a suitable title for text?

A、Monkey Can Hock Each Other's Grammar
B、Monkey’s Can Communicate With Human
C、We Can Interpret Monkeys Danger Calls
D、We Can Identify Monkeys by Their Calls

Learning a foreign language well is difficult. 44. Many students find it difficult to understand concept which do not occur in their own language, and the memory load is high. 45. There is no point in pretending that these difficulties do not exist. 46. As all teachers know, students particularly in school, do need to be reminded from time to time that there is no short cut to success. Being realistic about difficulties is an important part of the teacher's job. 47. For example, if students are doing a listening exercise with a lot of language they may not understand, they need to be told of this difficulty in advance. 48. The principle, however, is for the teacher to be realistic about difficulties and to avoid undermining the students' confidence by casual ill-considered remarks
